I started out doing engineering on the shop floor. My father ran a metalworking shop and I worked with him while I was studying: sheet metal, sections, welding, machining. At weekends I did maintenance work on the steel plants at Tenaris in Dalmine. You only really learn a design when you see it assembled, not when you close it on the screen.
I graduated in Mechanical Engineering in Brescia in 1997. From 2002 I worked as an independent designer across very different sectors: pharmaceutical machinery, industrial adhesive systems, medical devices, stringing equipment for high-voltage cables, glass vial forming machines, precision boring machines tens of metres long. Between 2016 and 2018 I worked on the development of the automation for first-stage preparation of ESA launch vehicles at the Kourou space centre.
I founded Promech MC in 2014. Since 2019 we have been working with the ENEA Research Centre in Frascati on the DTT project, Italy’s new Tokamak for fusion research: integration of components inside the Torus Hall, in an environment where the density of elements and the operating constraints have no industrial equivalent.
Every sector has given something to the others: the traceability that nuclear demands, the iteration speed of industrial work, the way medical forces you to think about whoever will be operating the machine. Clients who work with us don’t just get the experience of their own sector, they get what we have learned in the others.
